cloud back up

In this digital age data backup has become a fundamental part of protecting business continuity

Cloud backup, also referred to as remote or online backup, is the process of making a copy of your companies important data in an off-site location, via the use of online Cloud storage.

The advantage of having your important data backed up off-site, away from your home or office, is that it is safe from theft, fire, and other local disasters.

FAQs

What happens to my data?

An app runs on your data storage location each evening, backing up any data created or modified that day to the Cloud location.

Online backup vs. local backup

The one clear advantage that online backup has over local backup is that your data is stored away from your home or office, meaning that your important data is free from local disasters like fires, floods, and more likely theft or vandalism.

However, it takes a long time to recall data from a Cloud location, so we always suggest having a local backup first for quick recovery of overwritten files or server/hard drive failure, and the Cloud backup is used in emergencies.

Where is my data stored?

The actual location will depend on which solution is right for your needs. The data is saved to a section of a large storage block in large server farms around the world.

As a Microsoft Partner we  utilise Microsoft’s Azure Storage and all the data remains within the EU datacentres.

Will my Internet connection be slow if I’m sending all my files over the Internet all the time?

Generally, no, you should not notice that your Internet connection is slower during uploads, especially if your large initial upload is already complete and are just doing normal web browsing, video watching, music streaming, etc.

After the initial upload of your data, the software installed on your computer that was provided by your chosen online backup service watches for changes and additions to files and locations and then uploads those changes. The whole of your selected data isn’t continually being backed up.

Is it safe to send & store my data on the Internet?

Online Cloud Backup services encrypt the data when sending across the Internet.

When you encrypt data, you encode it so only authorized people can read it.

All online backup services encrypt your data, both during the transfer from your computer/device to the online backup provider’s server and for the time its stored on that server, keeping it completely private at all times.
