It is February, and it is the month of love, so we wanted you to take a moment to think about your relationships … with technology.
It’s time to re-assess our approach to new technology and understand the buzz phrases of 2022 such as The Right to Repair, Repair and Re-use and Self-Repair.
Why is the world talking about repairability?
Towards the end of 2022, the European Green Deal will introduce the rights of consumers to repair products at fair prices, with a view of extending the useful life of goods. This will apply in the EU and UK.
Apple, whose devices have always been very difficult to repair, have launched an initiative (even after spending millions campaigning against the laws) called ‘Self Service Repair,’ where it will be making Apple parts, tools, and manuals available to individual consumers for the first time. Apple are now acknowledging for the first time that repair and self-repair are key when it comes to the sustainability of their products and the satisfaction of consumers.
However, taking apart the hardware may not be for everyone – it can be fiddly, time consuming and needs to be put back together in the right order. If you don’t feel comfortable taking equipment apart – and do keep an eye on those tiny screws – then you can contact us and use the experience of our technicians who will be able to help order the right parts and carry out any repairs for you.
These steps can also help companies looking to improve their carbon footprint. The world is adapting at a fast pace with the goal of Carbon Neutral being replaced by Carbon Positive. More and more companies are investigating initiatives that can help them promote sustainable working and taking small steps to help the environment. Having a “reuse and recycle” program for your equipment will help you to achieving your sustainability goals.
If you really do not need the hardware any longer, you can donate to charity, resell in the second-hand market or recycle. Either way, you need to ensure the device has been securely wiped to ensure company data does not get into the wrong hands.
If you would like more help with reaching your sustainability or green goals, we would love to help you with the technology aspect of analysing your procurement and recycling.
So why not give your technology some love this year and give your existing devices a health check, hardware update or some reusable love.
